The curse of the internet

The internet is wonderful, don’t get me wrong.  It is truly a revolution of communication and is changing the world.

But there are times when it is a curse, because as a writer it can sometimes be the last thing you want in front of you.

I write in a converted bedroom upstairs, what the British call a box room, mainly because you can only fit boxes in it.

Well, I’m squeezed in there and I cope very well thank you.  The added bonus is that there is no TV as a distraction.  I have a radio and computer based music, I don’t find them a writing distraction, often actually aiding the work.

But online TV is just a death knell for any writing, certiainly for someone like me without any kind of self control.  And what is worse is the rise on on-demand TV services like Sky Go and Netflix.  I’m like a moth to the flame.  Note I’ve not hyperlinked these services; I don’t want to encourage you.

Looks like I’ll have to enable my own internet filter to block these things out if I’m trying to write, otherwise I could lose hours of writing time.

So the question is, what are your biggest online distractions and how do you deal with them?
